Dear Joan,
I had a letter from your Dad and he sent me your address. So I must write to you and hope you are having a wonderful time. Do write to us, it will be nice to hear from USA.
Beryl and Hazel are well but we are kept awake at night with the guns. They seem so noisy when we should like to get a little sleep. The twins will not know you when you come home. You will be their big sister come home to tell them some nice tales of the wonderful time you are having. So write to me, dear, and a little note to Beryl and Hazel. Auntie Nellie and Uncle Dick will write next time. It seems a long time ago since you came to Forest Gate(1), but keep well and cheerful and let Mum and Dad hear all you do and they will tell us.
Now, dear, I must say good night and God bless you.
From your loving Grandma.
