Letters to America

Friday, February 28th, 1941

Darling Joan,

We hope that you are enjoying the Rupert(1) story. The babies have just had their evening story read to them and are now going off to bed.

There is a letter here also from Dora Gleadhall, and I do hope that you will send her a letter in reply because she does so look forward to hearing from you.

We have had a lovely spring day here today, and the snowdrops are now in flower in the front garden. Do you still remember the little blue Scillas that grow in the little bed just in front of the front door? In the summer you will see how lovely the parks are in Rochester. I have heard that there are such beautiful parks there.

There has been lots of skating in America, according to letters I have seen from Janet Kemp, and she can skate very well now. Can you skate yet, or do you keep to your sled? I suppose that a sled is what we would call a sledge?

I do think, Joan, that you had a very nice lot of Christmas presents and I know that you are duly grateful to the people who are being so kind to you. You must try to repay them in whatever little way that you can, and one way is to work hard at your school and your music.

Good-bye for the present and lots of love from your
Daddy
