Letters to America

Sunday, January 24th, 1943

My darling Joan,

John and Anne have written you letters of thanks for the Christmas parcels. I have sent them with Daddy’s letter this week. We have also posted a few more comics. It was a queer feeling to see your little gloves with the name tags I had put on 2½ years ago! I wished you were inside them darling.

It was very foggy here this morning but the afternoon was bright, so after John and Anne had gone to Sunday School(1), Daddy and I went for a walk around the Common(2). It’s a very long time since we went for a walk alone, and we put on our new coats. John and Anne have colds – there are such a lot about. They were to go to Sheila Dobson’s birthday party yesterday and Patsy Gaze’s today, but both little girls were not well and the parties have been postponed. I hope you are getting through the winter without many colds.

Mr and Mrs Kemp came along this evening for a game of Bridge. She had a letter from Janet this week posted Nov. 27th air-mail. So you see how we have to wait for the letters nowadays.

Well, goodnight darling and God bless you.

Much love from
Mummy
