Darling Joan,
We have just had breakfast and I thought I would write this letter before going out into the garden to work, because with our double-summertime the clocks are on two hours and so it is really only half past seven, and a rather damp and raw morning. Yesterday afternoon Mummy and I went to Wembley Stadium to see the Cup Final (football) and saw the teams presented to General Eisenhower. There was also some fine bands, the Coldstream Guards, the U.S. Army H.Q. Band, and during the interval, a display by three massed bands of Sea, Air and Army Cadets. Altogether it was an exciting afternoon and Mummy enjoyed her first visit to Wembley, even though it rained steadily after the first half hour. Still, we had gone expecting rain and even though we weren’t under cover, we came to no harm.
The twins went to the local fair with Nanny and went to some swings and roundabouts and so everyone had fun. They go back to school tomorrow after quite a nice holiday, the weather having been mostly quite nice, and although they haven’t been anywhere special, they have been out of doors nearly all the time. We did go to Kew Gardens last Monday (Bank Holiday(1)) afternoon, but apart from the daffodils and a few early flowering trees, there weren’t a lot to be seen, but the children did enjoy watching the fish in the lake, some very big ones.
Lots of love, Joan darling, and keep well
Daddy
